Obituary for
Norman Chesley Simms
Passed peacefully away at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Care Center on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, Norman Chesley Simms, age 86 of Harbour Breton, NL.
Norman was a devoted common law husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone that knew him. He spent most of his life fishing; at the young age of 16 he made his first trip and continued until he retired. He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and go in the woods. But his favorite past time was watching wrestling; he could spend hours watching and acting out the wrestling moves. In August of 2022 Norman went into the Long Term Care Unit where he made lots of friends and loved interacting with patients and the staff.
Norman leaves to mourn his loving family: daughter, Jane (Keith) at Harbour Breton; grandson, Gavin (Judy) at Harbour Breton; great grandchildren, Jonah (Alaina) and Lucas; brothers, Tom Simms (Annabelle) at Fortune, Ronald Simms (Jane) at Gaultois and Garfield Simms at Grand Bank; sister, Hazel Newport (Gordon) and Mary Burke, all at Mount Pearl; brother in law, Earl Kendell at Gaultois; as well as a circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
Norman was predeceased by his common law partner, Madeline Coombs; parents James R. Simms and Ettie Simms; brothers, Stanley Simms, Harther Simms and Eric Simms (Ada); sister, Winnie Kendell; sister in law, Norma Simms.
Visitations took place at Spencer’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm, and, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Family Service was held at 7pm.
Funeral Service was held on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at 11:00am from St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church at Harbour Breton with Rev. Jonathan Durdle officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Breton.
