Obituary for
Mildred Melissa Louise Rose (Hiscock)
It is with great sadness that the family of Mildred Melissa Louise Rose (Hiscock) announces her passing at age 92. Mildred passed away peacefully at the Central Regional Healthcare Centre on the evening of December 9th, 2023.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Alexander; son, Wayne; infant children, John and Lillian; great granddaughter, Aubrey; sisters, Madge and Gwendolyn; and brothers, George, Jack, and Austin.
Left to mourn are her daughters, Margaret, Ruth (Gordon), Melita (Ron), Brenda (Rick) and Sheila (Mike); son, John; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Elizabeth and Marina; along with a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Mildred was a very kind and gentle soul, but always had a lot to say. She could tell you stories from when she was a little girl as if it was yesterday. Even into her 90’s she had a quick wit and never missed an opportunity to crack a joke. She loved crowds and getting together with her family and friends whenever possible. Her sense of humor entertained everybody in her presence, and she certainly left her mark on those around her.
Mildred was born on April 20th, 1931, in Hermitage to Newman and Edith Hiscock. She raised 7 children with her husband Alexander before his early passing in 1984. She moved to Bishop’s Falls in 2006 to be closer to her daughter Brenda. Mildred enjoyed a wide range of hobbies in her long life including berry picking, sewing, and knitting – sending her Christmas stockings across the country. She also loved her music and was always singing and dancing along to traditional Newfoundland music.
Visitation took place at St. Saviour's Anglican Church in Hermitage on Tuesday, December 12 from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm.
Funeral service was held at St. Saviour's Anglican Church on Wednesday, December 13 at 2:00pm with Rev. Jonathan Durdle officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Hermitage. At her request, her son, Wayne’s ashes. was buried with her.
