Obituary for Daniel Baker

Daniel  Baker
Passed peacefully away on May 29th, 2023 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Daniel Baker, age 60 years of Harbour Breton, NL.

Dan was born to parents, Vincent and Julia Baker on June 6th, 1962 in Harbour Breton, NL; he had 13 brothers and sisters. He met the love of his life, Mahala Lace and were married on July 28th, 1990. They had 3 children; Whitney, Joey and Eric. He loved the sea as it was a part of his childhood and his chosen career was to be a Fish Harvester. He loved spending time with his most precious gifts, his grandchildren, Mason, Nicholas, Mahala, David and Liam.

He was a strong advocate for his union and his fellow fish harvesters. He was also a dedicated volunteer to the Harbour Breton Harbour Authority for many years and dedicated his time to help improving the harbour front and facilities for his fellow fishers.

Dan leaves to mourn his children, Whitney(Justin) of Grand Falls Windsor, Joey(Vanessa) of Grand Falls Windsor, Eric(Chelsea) of Harbour Breton and Danny of Harbour Breton; grandchildren, Mason, Nicholas, Mahala, David, Liam and Robert; sisters, Claudia(James), Bessie(Ambrose), Minnie Hickey and Barbara(Gerald); brothers, James Baker(Flora),Edward Baker(Doris), Norman Baker and Vincent Baker; sisters in law, Erika(Paul), Deanna(Brian), Shannon, Natasha(Pete), Judy King, Patricia Baker, Wanda Pierce and Barbara Baker; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Dan was predeceased by Mahala Baker(Wife); Vincent and Julia Baker(Parents); Jane Snook(Sister); brother in law, Stewart Snook; brothers, Joe Baker, Silas Baker, Linus Baker and Peter Baker; nephew, Vincent Baker; parents in law, Eric and Bessie Lace; brother in law, Palmer Stone; and great niece, Averee Pierce.

Visitation took place on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm, Thursday, June 1st, 2023 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.

Funeral Services took place at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Harbour Breton on June 2, 2023 at 10:30 am with Rev. Bruce Vallis officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery in Harbour Breton, NL.

"God Grant that I may live to fish until my dying day, And when it comes to my last haul, I then most humbly pray; When in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep, That in His mercy I be judged as good enough to keep."
