Obituary for Claude Kendell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claude Kendell on February 24, 2023. He passed peacefully away at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls - Windsor.

He was born in Pushthrough, Newfoundland. In 1969 Claude, his mother, and father moved to Milltown, but Pushthrough always remained close to his heart. He jumped at every opportunity to go back and visit Pushthrough. He loved to roam around the old community and reminisce about the time growing up there.

Claude was a very quiet, private and dependable individual and a friend to many. Wherever Claude traveled in Newfoundland he always stumbled upon familiar faces that he had met over the 30 years working with the Department of Highways. Claude was a devout member of the Christ Church congregation and always went above and beyond to serve. Some of his greatest enjoyments were playing guitar, a good singalong with family and friends, and cheering on his favorite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Left to mourn his loving wife of 50 years, Thelma Kendell (Matchem) and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will forever be missed by his family and all his close friends in Milltown - Head Bay d’Espoir.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Melissa Alison Kendell, his mother, Alice Kendell (Garland), father, Samuel Kendell, and brother, Everett Kendell.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors of the Central Regional Health Center and Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor for their excellent care of Claude and the family surrounding him in recent days. Thank you to the many friends who visited Claude at the hospital.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will take place at Christ Church, Milltown, NL at a later time.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Christ Church Cemetery Fund. Christchurch709@gmail.com or mail: Christ Church, P.O. Box 9, Milltown, NL, A0H 1W0). Such a gesture would be greatly appreciated by the family.
