Obituary for Patricia Eva Gladys Dewland (Wells)

It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you of the passing of Patricia (Patsy) Eva Gladys Dewland (nee Wells) on December 31, 2022, at the age of 85. She passed peacefully away surrounded by her family at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre.

She wore many hats; a stay at home mom by choice and a mother to whoever we brought home. She loved her family unconditionally and they could do no wrong. She was also an avid fisher person. To go to the cabin in Furby’s Cove with Job to go fishing was her happy place. She also enjoyed berry picking with her neighbours and friends, Marguerite, Bertha, Margaret, Francis and Al, and Betty; and oh, we can’t forget Ronnie! During the fall the boil-ups while partridge berry picking with her brother, Fred and his wife, Joyce was the highlight of the season.

In addition to being a full-time mother, she was a long time Girl Guide Leader with so much care and compassion. She was a Lions Club member for many years helping with catering, events and numerous functions. She also volunteered her time with her church which she cared for deeply.

Patsy was also know as “Mrs Wrigley” by one of her dialysis friends. She wondered why and when finally asking him, he said it was because she was always dressed up like a stick of chewing gum.

Left to mourn is her loving husband of 66 years, Job; her children, Joan, Roger (Donna), Jeff(Jackie), Job(Bernice); brother, Fred Wells and his wife, Joyce and their family. Also, left to mourn are her grand children, Tracy Morrison (Hugh), Jessica Richard (Gerry), Patti Oram (Mark), Curtis Dewland (Alisha), Robyn Dewland-Organ (Martin), Justin Dewland (Laura), Job Dewland IV, Andrew Dewland and Jennifer Dewland (Kevin); as well as fifteen great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of her close friends in Grand Falls, Bay d’Espoir and Furbys Cove; too numerous to mention but you know who you are.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jonas and Jessie Wells (Anderson); sister, Sonia Butcher; brother, Earl Wells (Melita) and sister, Betty Green(Dan).

A very special thank you to her team at the Grand Falls Dialysis Unit-- she loved her girls. Also, many thanks to the caring staff of doctors and nurses on ward 3A at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre.

Cremation will take place and a Memorial Service and a Celebration of Life will take place at Christ Church, Milltown, NL on July 20, 2023.

As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Central Newfoundland Hospital Dialysis Unit at
