Obituary for Harvey Llewellyn "Llew" Anderson

Harvey Llewellyn "Llew" Anderson
Dad was called ‘Llew’ by his family and friends and called Harvey by his co-workers in Grand-Falls when he travelled back and forth during his employment with the Department of Highways for over 25 years. He fought a brave battle with his illness and though it was hard to let him go, we know he is at rest and where he wants to be, by Mom’s side.

Throughout his life, Dad believed that it was important to help others. When he was with Highways and travelling to Grand Falls several times a week for work, he frequently spent his lunch breaks running errands for folks from Hermitage but helping others didn’t stop there. If someone in the community needed a helping hand, Dad was always there to help. He always had to be doing something, it seems.

The past few years for Dad was hard as he couldn’t do the things he wanted. He loved fixing things and kept every nut and bolt from old parts, “you never know it might come in handy one day,” he used to say. Nothing went to waste with Dad.

Dad started to do a bit of wood working for a while and we all have a piece of his creations, though after Mom passed, he lost interest in attempting to build anything. Mom was his inspiration and he felt lost without her after almost 40 years of marriage. They were life partners and soul mates. When he was having a bad day, he knew he would find comfort with Mom. We know they’re together now dancing to their favourite song that he always sang to Mom: Walk Through This World with Me. We loved watching Mom and Dad dance and some of us inherited their love of dancing. We know Mom is there holding out her arms for him to continue with their dance.

Dad came from a large family of 10 brothers and sisters but growing up we always thought we had more aunts and uncles because he called so many in Hermitage and Sandyville Aunt or Uncle out of respect. That was something he has passed on to his children and now his grandchildren.

Dad was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Sally, parents, Fred and Winnifred; parent in-laws, Clyde and Belinda (Rose); sister, Martha, and brother, Jack.

Dad leaves behind his children, Wanda (Raymond) Regina, SK; Murray (Verna) Bay de Espoir; Sherry-Lynn (Michael) St. John’s; Dean (Joanne) Edmonton, AB; Valerie (Dwayne) Seal Cove. Grandchildren: Robert, Benedict (Katherine); Taylor; Nicholas; Joshua; Robyn (Brandon); Rebecca (Kevin). Great- grandchildren: Jase, John and Jesse. Special companion Marlene who was by Dad’s side for the past 17 years and we are grateful for her time with Dad; thank you, Marlene for caring for Dad when we couldn’t be there; brothers Hubert and Leonard and sisters, Bessie, Carrie, Kathleen, Melita and Grace (Gerald); Beatrice (Junior), sister at heart to both Mom and Dad, and Shawn who always held a special place in their hearts as well many nieces, nephews and friends.

Thank you to the staff at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Care Centre for caring for Dad for the past 14 months. You didn’t hesitate to take the extra step to make Dad comfortable and we greatly appreciate your support. We thank too all of those who dropped in to visit Dad during his stay at the hospital. Each visit he appreciated greatly.

Because of COVID-19 some of his immediate family were unable to be there to say good-bye to Dad as well as many other family and friends.

Dad will always be in our hearts and we will never forget his favourite saying when he wanted to make a point or was excited about something. He always said, “By Jingles.”

By Jingles Dad, We’ll Love You Forever
