Obituary for Janet A. MacKinnon Organ

Janet A. MacKinnon Organ
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our wonderful, amazing Mom, Janet MacKinnon Organ, on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the age of 91, with her loving family holding her in their hearts.

Mom was born in Inverness, Scotland on August 7, 1928, the daughter of Donald MacKinnon and Elizabeth McGowan. She had 2 brothers, Donnie and Tommy, step-brother, Simon, and many other relatives in Scotland and shared many stories with us about them. Mom was a war bride and met Dad when she was 18 years old during World War II at a little cafe in Inverness. We all enjoyed listening to the story of how they met. They fell in love, married and Dad brought her home to Newfoundland where they raised 8 children together. We can now take comfort in the fact that after 48 years apart, they are now reunited in love. Mom was a wonderful mother to all 8 of us and always made each and every one of us feel that we were truly loved and never alone. Her strength, her honesty, her huge heart and her sense of humour shaped who we are today. She had 25 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was very proud of them all and loved seeing them and listening always with interest to their many stories. Our door was always open to friends and extended family who were always welcomed and often said how they loved listening to her with her Scottish accent. Mom’s favourite past time was reading and she always had a stack of books readily available and was a constant visitor at the local library. She also loved playing darts, going to bingo, playing card games and doing crossword puzzles.

Mom was an active member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 52 in St. Alban’s for a number of years. She also served in the bar at the Legion for many years and was a favourite among many of the residents of St. Alban’s and surrounding areas.

We would like to thank the staff at Twin Town Manor for the love and care they gave to Mom. She would always say that they were like family and "I have yet to see a cross one". We were all well aware of the many hugs and kisses they gave her during our visits.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, George; her son Jerome; sons-in-law, Wilfred Collier and Kevin Hynes; grandsons Jason and Corey Willcott; her Mother and Father and her two brothers. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Gus) Willcott and Sheila Collier of St. Alban’s; Jean Hynes of Timberlea, Nova Scotia; Fiona Organ of Halifax; sons Brian Organ (Alice) and Gerard Organ (Mary) of St. Alban’s; Rodney Organ (Lisa) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and daughter-in-law, Marg Organ of Timberlea, Nova Scotia.

We love you, Mom, and will always miss you. You will always live in our hearts and will now be our Guardian Angel.

When we lose someone we love, I believe Rose Kennedy said it best when she said:
"Time Heals All Wounds; I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers it with scar tissue and the pain lessens but it is never gone”.

Burial took place on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Cemetery at St. Alban’s.
